boundaries, biases, and blind spots

to begin this explanation, i would like to reiterate my purpose as written in the about section of this website:

to catalog, curate, and create furry stories that celebrate the past and cultivate the future of the furry community

i have always wanted to create my own space online that captured what i love about being a furry. some of this website is personal, but most of the content on here i would consider to be reviews of furry media both old and new.

with these reviews, i create a curated catalog of furry stories as i add more to the site. well, what about create? i do like to write, and i would love to make a visual novel some day, but most often, my creations come in the form of fan fictions. at least, that is the current state. i would like to come back and edit this document once i have put more time into my creations.

boundaries

i imposed limitations on this site for these reasons: i wanted to make a place exclusive to furry media and i wanted to stay focused on my furry theory work.

limiting this site's scope to furry-related content only helps make it a place where browsers know what they will see and can expect. however, this has the added benefit that all the content i make for this site doubles as projects for my furry theory research goals. you can view some of my work with furry theory in the docs subpage.

additionally, for anything i review on this website, i have to have a digital or physical copy for the sake of archiving, posterity, and media availability. far to often have i read or enjoyed something furry related for it to only be lost to time on the internet.

flash games, abandoned or deleted comics, and private accounts have all posed difficult situations when it comes to cataloging furry media. reviewing this 'lost' or purposefully obfuscated furry media can be a challenge as i would like everything on this site to be accessible to anyone who wants to enjoy to media i review.

biases

as this site is already bound by only including furry content, i do have personal taste and biases that factor into what ends up on the site.

firstly, if i do not like a piece of media, i do not review it for the site. there are many, many, many examples of furry media that i have consumed and disliked to various degrees, but i do not believe it is a productive use of my time to catalog the bad when i could invest more time into cataloging the good. everything on this site is a personal endorsement of my personal enjoyment.

secondly, i do identify as a multiple gender attracted person, but i often just use gay as my label. i would say a label i prefer more is homoflexible and the flag i like to use is the bisexual one as it's colors match nice with my fursona. this means that i do have a bias for gay, boys love, and m/m media. most content on this site appeals to the gay male taste, but i do like to feature heterosexual works and bisexual works too.

thirdly, i tend to read content for adults if not just outright smut. i think the erotic genre is the most compelling and invokes the most response out of me. this is not to say i don't read and review works rated G, PG, PG-13, and R, but most of what i read and review is X.

lastly, as an American, i do hold a natural bias for works published in English. i will say that my searches for furry boys love has found me on Japanese and Korean websites, but my primary reviews are all based on English or translated to English works, and of those translated, they are most likely of Japanese origin.

blind spots

most of these blind spots do relate to my known biases. i do think there are unknown unknowns in my biases that have limited my scope of potential furry content, and i would like to work to find them the more i write for this site.

lesbian media - as a gay man, i often do not have interest in lesbian works. i love lesbians, and please do not see this blind spot as a slight toward them. the blind spot here just means i have to do manual digging to find lesbian furry media as it is not algorithmically provided to me and often does not catch my attention when i am browsing for new works to review.

non-English and non-Japanese works - i have a good eye for finding English and Japanese furry media, but i often miss works in other languages. i would especially love to get more Spanish language works on the site as i can read Spanish with a little assistance.

pre-2000's works - a lot of furry media from this time is not archived as abundantly as the newer stuff, so any tips on older furry media would be great!
